The Lake

The lake is never the same twice. Some mornings it mirrors the sky in perfect stillness. Other days it moves softly against the shore — silver, deep, alive. It does not dominate the landscape. It defines it.

Nahuel Huapi stretches for 557 km², its colour changing hour by hour from deep indigo at dawn to jade at noon to hammered silver at dusk. There is no horizon you can fully trust — the mountains make certain of that. Step onto the floating dock, or simply sit. Both are enough.

The Forest

Step beyond the house and the air changes. Cypress, coihue, earth after rain. Light filters through the trees in shifting patterns, and every path feels both intimate and endless.Nature is not something you observe. It surrounds you.

Behind the hotel, the Valdivian temperate rainforest begins without ceremony. Coihue and arrayán — trees with cinnamon-coloured bark and a thousand-year patience. Walk in any direction and lose yourself. A guide will find you — though many guests prefer not to be found.

In northern Patagonia, where the Andes descend into deep blue waters and ancient forests meet the silence of the mountains, Las Balsas has stood for more than four decades.

What began as a family home has become an intimate retreat of 20 rooms and villas — for those who seek something increasingly rare: intimacy, authenticity, and a profound connection with nature.

At Las Balsas, the landscape is not a backdrop. It is the main character.

On the Lake

The lake is at the heart of Las Balsas. From our private dock, Nahuel Huapi becomes both landscape and experience. Sailing invites you to surrender to the wind and the rhythm of the water, while kayaking reveals quiet inlets and hidden shores at your own pace. Fishing offers moments of stillness in one of Patagonia’s most pristine environments.

Movement and silence coexist naturally. The water sets the tone.
